   The Decision Makers Minimize

As your child's best advocate, you have the right and the responsibility to make sure your concerns are heard.

If you have tried to work with your child's teachers and administrators in his or her school, and your concerns have not been addressed, contact the Director of Special Education.  Other contact info for Special Education also found on this page.

Questions about due process, mediation and/or filing a complaint with MSDE? Refer to the Special Education Rights and Wrongs handbook by MD Disability Law Center and the Proceedural Safeguards booklet you should have received with your IEP or go directly to the MSDE website for Complaint procedures .

The Board of Education (BOE) should be open to your concerns as well. They are your elected representatives who are supposed to act as oversight for MCPS.  Let them know what's going on.  BoE also has a Special Education Ad Hoc Committee which is particularly concerned with your issues.  General Board contact info and Special Ed Ad Hoc Committee meeting info and minutes are found on this page.

The Montgomery County Council (MCC) concerns itself with budget issues with regard to the MCPS Operating Budget and the budget of the Capital Improvements Program (CIP).  As your elected representatives, they also want to hear what you have to say about MCPS -- the MCPS budget comprises the majority of the Montgomery County budget.  While all Council members are interested in your concerns, the MCC Education Committee focuses on MCPS.  General contact information and Education Committee meeting information and documents found on this page.
